Just a quick note to let you all know that we arrived safe and sound in Hanoi today. It was a rather long day yesterday traveling from Kowloon to Macau by ferry, and then flying from Macau to Kuala Lumpur and then to Hanoi. Still - anything to save a buck!

Hanoi is more....well.....nuts than I think either of us imagined. Good Lord there are a LOT of scooters here! For any of you who have seen the Crumpler catalogue - it looks exactly like that! The amount of things (and people) that can be carried on a scooter is very impressive (and a little scary). So far today, the best we've seen is four adults all with a back pack each on one 110cc moped. And I saw a guy with two large wire cages stacked up with probably about twenty live chickens in each on his scooter. We will try our best to capture some photos of the madness here, but I'm not sure we will manage to portray it all.

Crossing the road is a little bit hair-raising. There doesn't appear to be any rules - except the biggest wins. To cross the road, you simply walk across the road, weaving in and out of the traffic as it weaves in and out as well. In reality what this means to me, is that I grab Malcolm's arm and pretty much close my eyes and hope for the best!

Have had a lovely supper, and have wandered around a very good night market, so all in all not a bad first day. We are hoping to walk about a bit more tomorrow and take some photos, so will hopefully be able to post some pics soon.

Love to all,
Karyn & Malcolm
