I flew to Taipei Feb 13 from Bangkok. My brother, his wife and their driver were waiting for me at the airport. Our first stop was CostCo. I didn't expect that. It was two stories tall with escalators for the shopping carts. CostCo had bulk squid balls. Mmmm, my favorite. Drive back to Taichung where my brother lives and works.
The next several days were mainly spent recovering from the few months of traveling - sleeping in and hanging around the house. It was raining often so the water would get shut off 'cuz it would be polluted. Did some daytrips and checking out of the city. Nancy and I went to the towns of Lugang and Changhua to see some temples and a big Buddha. We were going to do a hike one of the days, but the trail was badly damaged by the [somewhat] recent earthquake. We saw some of the lanterns out for lantern festival in Taichung (there were some Hello Kitty lanterns)
Had a couple weeks in Taiwan before flying home and finishing the trip.

. We did a tour of the Feng Tay factory - it was in a large, open building so it was quite cold. I could still smell the solvents. I sure wouldn't want to work there. The factory manager took us up to Hsito, a park in the hills. It was cool looking in the fog. We had a trout dinner afterwards. Another day my brother and I visited temples at Sun Moon Lake. We went to the Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Village after the temple. We got to go and a few rides and had some silly pictures taken there. We also went to Taipei for a couple days. Saw the National Palace Museum and lots of artifacts there. The lantern festival at the Chiang Kaishek Memorial was cool. They had lots of dragons setup and a laser light show. Visited more temples our second day there and ate some American food. Had a couple weeks in Taiwan before flying home and finishing the trip.
