I finished my 6 day tour of southern Ireland yesterday. It was alright. The driver was more interested in talking about himself than Irish history, and when we'd get to a new town he'd usually tell us stories about friends or relatives he had in that town and what the good pubs were (little to no info on town itself). The group traveling was just ok too - an Australian guy and his German girlfriend, 2 Australian girls over from London, 2 older Aussie ladies and 2 Swedish girls (they were only on the trip the first couple days). The Aussie guy and his girlfriend were fun to hang out with. The two younger Aussie girls were too, but were low on money so didn't always go out with us. The two older Aussie ladies were a bit annoying - one was hyper and would scream "look a sheepy!" everytime she saw a sheep (which was a lot...she reminded me of a female Richard Simmons) and the other complained all the time. My cold came back so I haven't been feeling too well the last several days. Compared to the tour of Scotland, this one didn't see and do nearly as much. We'd usually leave around 10am and arrive at our destination by 4pm, only having seen a couple things in between.
The first day was a drive from Dublin to Galway stopping at Clonmacnoise - an old church and graveyard. We went out in Galway to a couple pubs and heard some live music. At the first pub we were at, there was a big Irish guy near me that decided I was his new best friend. He was a bit drunk and kept talking to me about whatever (including telling a scene from "Smokey and the Bandit"). His girlfriend and her friends were a bit embarrassed by him and moved tables while he wasn't looking.

Day 2 we drove south and saw the Cliffs of Moher and stayed in Killarney. It was so windy up at the Cliffs that you could lean at about a 45 degree angle and stay up.

We went out for dinner and a couple different pubs trying to find someplace alright. We ended up at a bar with both dancing and live music.

The next day we lost our Swedes and drove out along the Dingle peninsula and saw lots of pretty scenery and stayed in Dingle. By then my cold was draining me, so I wasn't feeling good enough for doing much in the evening.

On the fourth day we went around the Ring of Kerry and stayed in Killarney again. I thought the scenery along the Dingle Peninsula was better than the Ring of Kerry. We were supposed to do some karaoke that evening, but the bar that had it had a live band on first that didn't start 'til almost 11pm and karaoke wasn't going to be on 'til 1am! (isn't that crazy!?!) Day 5 we started heading east stopping at Blarney Castle (yes, I kissed the stone) and stayed in Kinsale.

The last day all we did was see the Rock of Cashel and stop in Kilkenny for lunch. The rest of the group continued on to Dublin, but I chose to stay here in Kilkenny for a few days to try and get over my cold. Though there's really only one place a person wants to be when they're sick. . .home.

I'll return to Dublin on Sunday and start my tour of the north on Monday. One of the other tour guides we met in Killarney was a freak so I have to hope I don't get him.
