I first went to check out Maligne Canyon. Kind of a cool gorge area.
Left Jasper and headed south down the Icefields Parkway (road) along the Athabasca River. There were some pretty views along there so I had to stop. Athabasca Falls were right there next to the road so an easy view. Along the way I stopped at Columbia Glacier and walked over for a close up view and pictures. Continued on south through more beautiful scenery and stopped at the parking area for Peyto Lake. Just a short hike up the hill and you're rewarded with a beautiful view of the lake and mountains.
The water color is amazing - kind of turquoise. A bit further south I checked out the campgrounds by Mosquito Creek, but didn't like those. Kept heading south to Lake Louise. I hiked up to Fairview Lookout for some pics of the lake and chateau. Drove over to Yoho Nat'l Park and saw Takakkaw Falls. The campgrounds around there looked full. I kept seeing young hitchhikers and thought I should pick them up and give 'em a ride since it was just me (but never did). Back to the Lake Louise area and found a good campground near Protection Mountain. Just dinner and to bed.
Saw a lot today. Here's a list: Maligne Canyon, Icefields Parkway, Mt Edith Cavell, Athabasca Falls, Mt Christie, Sunwapta Falls, the Columbia Glacier, Saskatchewan River, Howse Valley, Waterfowl Lake, Peyto Lake, Mosquito Creek, Lake Louise, Takakkaw Falls and Protection Mt.
