So I arive at my hostel late to find out it appears to be some guys rather small apartments with lots of bunkbeds crammed in in. Still the owner is very nice, the bunk beds comfortable and clean and its a really friendly atmosphere. Its on a noisy street (24 hours noisy) and my bed is next to the aircon unit but I'm provided with ear plugs so at $169 for 4 nights I can't complain.
12 people and one bathroom is fun in the mornings!
After the sunshine of LA, I arrive to humid rain in New York. My first day I sleep late and check out some of the sights. I walk through Times Square, hop on a city tour bus to see 'downtown' and ride thriough Soho, the Financial district etc. I walk back through Times Square at night catch a movie on my way home returning to the hostel late.
Day two I go to the top of the Empire State Building to see the amazing views over the city and then catch the circle line boat ride to see the Statue of Liberty. Back at the hostel there is an ice hockey game to watch but I'm mostly confused by the rules.
Day three I go to Lincoln Centre and then wander through Central Park. Its fantastic bar the constant drizzling rain that has marred my trip. I have beers in a very cool Irish bar in Soho with my cousin followed by Lombardi's pizza (amazing) and head back to my hostel late to get up at 5.30 to fly to Dallas.
New York is very cool, I would love to have spent some more time in bars, enjoying myself without trying to cram in all the sightseeing (of which i didn't do THAT much). Next time i shall stay for longer and go in the summer when I have less chance of drizzle. I'd stay in the hostel again though, despite its cramped facilities, it really was a nice homely safe place.
