To address people's questions:
John B: Becky can't get into GMail, has tried several times. If you want to write her please forward to Laurie and Don's email account and she will get it as Laurie can get into her email no problem. Same with you Bill as Dianne cannot get into her Sympatico account.
As far as a Ferrari souvenier Don B. will have a surprise.
The most favorite flavour of Gelato for Karen is definitely chocolate. Becky and Laurie love the Blackberry. Dianne has yet to truely imbibe but will let you know.
No the gold on the couch is not real Sue because if it were we would have chipped off a little to sell to you.
If anyone would like to forward the blog link to freinds that would be fine.
The phone numbers we have here: 366-951-4298 and 336-951-4159
And thank you so very much John and Don V. for visiting mother and keeping us abreast of her shennanigans. Love that Mr. Big comment. Laurie did actually buy her a Mr Big at one point.
Yesterday, we had a Leisurely shopping experience along the many small little streets in Florence. We found out where the locals shop and got some great clothing bargains. Dianne bought a blouse in the nearly new shop and Laurie got a leather purse there. Karen and Becky both bought beautiful leather gloves. Several gifts (surprises) for people back home were purchased by all. We made it to the Ponte Veccio where all of the jewelly is, and where both Karen and Becky bought beautiful rings. Becky also bought many more pieces of jewellery for her Pandora Bracelet
After pounding the pavement for 3 hours we stopped at a little cafe for a typicial Italian lunch. We then visited the Uffizi Gallery. There are over 2000 paintings at any one time in the gallery. We had a guided tour of the major paintings. Our tour guide was informative and interesting. We viewed Giotto's Madonna - he was very daring because he painted Madonna's boobs. We saw Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" and "Allegory of the Spring". They are absolutely huge paintings and are very beautiful. We saw Leonardo De Vinci's "The Annunciation". Our guide discussed the artistic points of the painting. Finally we studied Michaelangelo's "The Holy Family".
After 2.5 solid hours standing on our already sore feet we were ready for a Chinese foot massage but, couldn't find one. We trodded home to a delicious dinner prepared by Dianne - Melon and Tomato salad with Chicken Spinach Goat cheese pasta (absolutely delicious and Laurie is definitely getting the recipie).
As a side note Laurie got hit on by a Morrocan Gigilo. Don B you had better be jealous.
Early to bed
Today, Dianne and Laurie are just getting lost in the city and Karen and Becky are having a rest day, reading, journaling and doing our laundry (thank you dears).
Tomorrow we are off on a bus tour to Sienna all day so we will blog on Sunday some time.
Love to all,
Dianne, Karen, Becky and Laurie
