Thursday 16.06.2001 - We packed up and said our goodbyes to Chris in the carpark of our hotel as he was heading west from Inverness to ride the Isle of Skye before heading to Ireland for two weeks.

Our plans are to head south to the Yorkshire Moors and stay at Whitby before catching a ferry to Rotterdam for the Assen MotoGP in the Netherlands. We all then met up again at Felixstowe to drop off the bikes on the 30.06.2011.

Ride safe Chris.

Before leaving Inverness we rode the 4 miles out of town to visit the Culloden Battlefield. Culloden, fought in 1746 was the last battle to be fought on British soil when the English defeated the Scottish Army of mainly highlanders led by Charles STUART, the leader of the Jacobite uprising.

The English Army led by the Duke of Cumberland and loyal to the parliament who supported the Hannovarian rulers of England. The battle was over within the hour and the Scots were routed, their dead buried underneath a stone cairn on the battlefield that is still venerated by the Scots today.

After leaving Culloden we retraced our steps south by following Loch Ness where we stopped at Invermoriston for a coffee break. We were fortunate to arrive just in time to watch the lock system working where 4 boats were going up stream through 5 separate locks,a rise of 4 metres each time.

We then continued our southward journey through Spean Bridge and passed the Commando Memorial we had stopped at on the way up. We continued through Fort William and onto Loch Nevis and rode past Ben Nevis which at 1344 metres is the highest peak in the United Kingdom.

We finally reached Stirling which is the ancient capital of Scotland, chased by rain clouds all the way down. The sun came out as we pulled in to town and rode past a petrol station with a hand held pressure wash so Greg decided that the P-D had earned the shampoo treatment. With a shiny clean bike we rode up to the King Robert Hotel our bed for the night.

We headed back into town and grabbed a bite to eat. We had planned to walk up the hill to take a look at Stirling Castle which we has visited previously in 1997 but we were too buggered for the climb. Oh well, back to the hotel and to bed.
