Glen Innes is a sleepy town with a population of 3,300 and is very reminiscent of an old Western USA style town with its storefront facades. It's a one fast food (KFC), one video store, six pub kind of town. We were quite enchanted by it, especially since the lovely bed and breakfast we were staying at provided internet access -- It's good to feel connected to the world again!
As we continue to head south, where it's colder, we're finding it necessary to switch from our summer clothes back to our spring attire
You can easily do the walk around this small town in an hour (Well, maybe 20 minutes if you're walking briskly). That being said, we aren't belittling the place at all.
The highlight of Glen Innes for us was Charlie's Rock and Roll Cafe (aka Charlie's Chicken), which featured a "Chip Roll and Coke combo" on the menu. A Chip Roll, for those of you who are not so epicuriously adventurous, is a hamburger but where a beef patty would normally be in the middle of the bun, french fries smothered with gravy are used instead.
The waitress at this establishment was a self described 'dirty hippy' from Tamworth (our next destination). She was quite taken with Melissa's 'cute' Canadian accent. Tamworth, she jokingly warned, was 'Redneck City' -- Yee Haw!!!
We will find out and keep you posted in our next travelogue entry, where we are looking forward to getting in touch with our Country and Western roots.
