We docked at Hofkirchen, not a planned stop but upriver from Passau. This was so the ship could get through the critical low water section quicker. We took buses back to Passau for the regular planned tours for the day while the ship went on ahead. Since the tour today was all walking Muriel stayed on board the ship. I joined up with our friends from Pittsburgh, Jack and Suzanne, so I would have company during the tour and four hours of free time we had in the afternoon. We did a walking tour through winding narrow cobblestone streets and alleys looking at old buildings and shops. We went into the cathedral and learned much about the stonework, frescoes and the organ. Then outside again for more walking around learning about the architecture of the buildings.

Then it was back to the cathedral for an organ concert. The organ has 275 stops and almost 18,000 pipes placed in five areas, including the ceiling. Very impressive concert, especially the final number as it echoed through the cathedral.

After the concert we were free until 4:30. Jack, Suzanne and I looked for a place to eat. We ended up at . Ristorante Bilancia d Oro, an Italian restaurant in a Bavarian town Very good and not expensive; I was able to stay under the 15 Euros the ship gave us for lunch. Ordinarily the ship would be docked here and available for lunch, but since it had gone on they had to give us money for lunch.

After lunch we window shopped and bought souvenirs. I also bought more coke and some pretzels to take back to the ship. Then we went to the Glass Museum which contains tens of thousands of glassware items from the 17th century on. A short walk took us to where the buses were to take us back to the ship. It was another pleasant drive, this time on the Autobahn. We got on the ship in Deggendorf where Muriel was waiting by the door.
