Energy levels within the team are beginning to drop this morning but the noise and excitement of the children perked us up and we were raring to go again! We started the day on the beach having fun in the sea jumping over the waves and splashing each other. The sea is surprisingly cold this year and being splashed with water is not necessarily our idea of fun but nevertheless the kids love it – maybe a little too much! Although some of the younger children previously held on to others whilst in the sea, they are now showing signs of wanting to swim and needing less support. Despite this some of them remain a little afraid and like having us there with them to reassure them and rescue them when their head goes underwater.

During our time on the beach we also introduced the children to the parachute, something most of them have never come across before. They were all very excited when they saw what looked like to them, a rather large, brightly coloured sheet. Many of them ran over to Rich eager to know what it was. The Cat & Mouse game was unsurprisingly a popular one, where they had to catch one another whilst the others made waves with the parachute to make it trickier for the catcher! We are sure the parachute will make reappearance later in the week.

In the evening Jenny taught the children about Jesus being the light of the world through a sketch where the team became members of two different tribes who fought over a light. The children all listened well and found it funny when the team had to pretend fight and fall over. I'm sure it was how ridiculous we looked that made them laugh rather than our BAFTA nominated performance! The story finished with neither of the tribes finding the light and consequently becoming weak, lost and unable to survive. The kids were taught that Jesus is the light of the world, and that we must share this light with one another.

Before we knew it Pete appeared with a bag of balloons. We were all surprised how something so small and simple to us, brought so much enjoyment to the children. Before the first one was blown up there was a surge of eager children all seeking the first balloon. He offered to make them into animals but just having the balloon was a novelty to them. The night ended on such a high that the kids didn’t want to leave us to go to bed.

Looking forward to another fun-filled day tomorrow!
