We sometimes like to think that whatever happens, children are surprisingly resilient and can come through really difficult situations in a manner that belies their years. Perhaps some do, but many others suffer terribly and never truly recover, some never get away from the problems they face and all kids need to have the love of a parent if they are to have a chance at a normal life.

The children of Lipnitsa Orphanage/School face challenges that arise through poverty, neglect, abuse and exploitation. Lipnitsa is a haven for these children during the school term but once the doors close at the end of term they return to the Roma communities, streets and abusive homes where food is often scarce and crime and abuse is out of control. The Lipnitsa Summer Camp forms just one part of The Trussell Trust's response to the neglect and exploitation of Bulgaria's vulnerable children and teenagers; we are committed to long term projects that aim to turn their future from one of darkness to a place full of possibility and potential realised.

The Trust has been running summer camps for 12 years and we have found that the children crave love and attention from adults. They thrive on the regular meals and rejoice in the games and activities we provide. Continuing on July 20th, we hope that through this blog we will be able to share with you the positive experiences of this year's camp. We'll have pics and video clips and stories from the children. We hope you will check in with us to see how your prayers and support for this project affect the lives of these children.

Here is a short video from last year's camp.
