Arrived back in Bangkok and went out to Khao San road to experience Songkran! It was CRAZY, there were 100,000s of people out there in the streets getting soaked, it was an amazing experience.
I had a bit of a bad experience though! My sunglasses broke the night before, and I couldn't find somewhere that sold them in the Banglamphu area around our hotel. I wasn't going to miss out on Songkran for anything though, so me, Dennis and Owen went down to Khao San Road after getting a bite to eat with Tom & Rich, who went home. We were in the foam area and the crowd was heaving and packed tight like sardines. I felt claustrophobic and scared as I saw a few girls being carried (well, being passed over people's heads as there was no room to move AT ALL) to the front as they were injured from being crushed in the crowd. The organisers were announcing in Thai (well I imagine they were saying this) "Everyone get out of the foam area, there are too many people and people are being injured". Well, this caused panic and it got worse.
Finally we got out of this area, I looked up and got shot square in the eye with a FORCEFUL water gun. I started screaming and holding my eye, it felt like it had disintegrated from the force of the water. I couldn't take my hand away as taking away the pressure KILLED my eye, I was sobbing as I truly thought I would have lost my eye. Dennis stayed with me whilst Owen got a paramedic person, who helpfully splashed water over my eye (that was the initial problem mate!) and then put a patch over my eye. We stayed in an internet cafe for a while just chatting and recovering my poor wee eye. After that debacle, we went back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. I was praying my eye would be ok and I wouldn't have to wear the stupid patch while we were out that evening! In the end my eye was fine, so we went to dinner at the hotel, then went out afterwards to explore the Patpong area. We bought some fake t-shirts (Victoria's Secret Pink and Ed Hardy) and visited a ping-pong show lol. We stayed out drinking till all hours and it was a brilliant night!
Tonight we take the overnight train to Surat Thani.
