The first thing I wanted to see was the Fontana di Trevi (Trevi Fountain), so we quickly ran down there, had some photos (and the obligatory gelati) and wandered a bit more around the city to find our bearings. We saw the Colloseum, walked past the Roman forums and the Victory Monument (I think that's what its called).
When we got back we discovered there was a lovely girl Melbourne staying in our dorm. We got chatting to her and decided to meet up the next day at the Pantheon for gelati at the famous shop that sells over 100 flavours.
So the next day we went shopping (bought some wallets for mum and D), explored the different areas, went for a walk in this gorgeous, massive park near the Colloseum (there were many Italian families playing soccer with their little ones, lovers picnicking on the grass, kids playing hide and seek behind trees...was a gorgeous sight in the middle of a big city like this!). Met up with Lisa for Gelati and saw the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps, and also went out for dinner with Lisa later that night.
The next day I was struck down with the worst case of food-poisoning I have ever had...the cleaners at our hostel thought I was drunk and gave me dirty/pitying looks all day. I just lay in bed all day, unable to keep even water down....pretty awful when you're on holidays!!
