Had the worst experience involving 22-bed dorm (when we paid for it they told us it was a 16-bed dorm!!), curious white stains on couches, rubbish overflowing out of the kitchen bin and no-one in sight to clean it, and me being the only female in the dorm. Seriously gross. The toilet doors don't close, so when I'm peeing I have to put one leg up against the door to stop passers-by peering in. The showers don't have doors either, only a flimsy shower curtain which smells mouldy and sticks to my body when there is a slight draft *cry* I will never go to Brown's Hostel again!!
We went out to explore the city and found a giant Knitting Needle monument in the main street. We went to a cafe near-by to have coffee and I start crying as I don't want to go back to the horrible dorm...I would prefer to sleep on the park benches on the banks of the Liffey!! We went to Tesco's to buy some supplies for dinner as the horrid hostel at least has kitchen facilities. We noticed there were no Irish people around...I just heard Eastern European accents and lots of Polish whereever we went.
After dinner we decided to go out for a drink to a local "Irish Pub". I ended up having MANY pints just so I would be drunk enough to get myself back to that god-awful place. Ended up on a table at the pub with an Irish couple, they were chatting to me and I have no idea what they were saying (Even though I grew up with a Ballymena Northern-Irish accent, I still can't understand Dubliners, hehe!!)
Slept with my money belt on, and my backpack padlocked to the bed. Not taking any chances in a place where men were sitting atop their bunks watching my every move. I wasn't sure if they were doing it in a sleazy way or 'I'm gonna steal your stuff when you fall asleep way', and I didn't want to find out!
