Art and Color
Our day started at 5am when we arose to catch an early train to Rome. The train ride was longer than we expected and not too comfortable, and we finally arrived about 10:30. We were in quite the rush to get to the restroom and when we finally found one, we had to scramble to find change to enter. Unfortunately in my haste to get in there, I walked out and immediately realized I'd left my change purse in the stall in. After flagging down the attendant to let me back in w/out having to pay again, I raced to the stall and found it occupied. After several minutes, we got an ominous feeling that whoever was in there had found it and was going through it. Finally, the door opened and not one but two young girls exited without looking at us. When they left, I looked in and the wallet was gone. Very upsetting, to say the least. The good news is . . . I had made copies of my credit cards and had the phone numbers handy. Also, I had segregated my cash, so I didn't lose as much as I could have. But I did have a very special photo of my dog Peppy on the front. Waaahhh. Trish said they probably took the cash and flushed the wallet. Ohhhh, poor little Peppy! Oh, well, those thieves will get theirs, right?!

The cab ride to the hotel didn't disappoint . . . that driver knew EXACTLY how wide his car was! We checked into the Westin Excelsior straight across from the American Embassy. It is beautiful . . . we especially like the gorgeous marbled bathroom! No time to linger, though . . . we were off to catch our tour of the Vatican, Sistene Chapel, and St. Peter's. Good thing we had booked in advance because the line went all around the block! The photos show it all. They are canonizing the first Australian saint, a nun, tomorrow and it is busy at the Vatican!

As we're sitting here at dinner, we all miss Jay and so much wish he were still with us :o( We did see several Jay look-a-likes, however! :-(

Hey Sharron! Believe me, if we had been in the states I wouldn't have hesitated in stopping those girls. As for Jay, he had to go back to work. We are bummed as the four of us were having so much fun together. Luvu!!!

Hi All! Miss you, miss Florence, miss the food. What a treat to come home to (choke, sob) America and enjoy the rest of your trip. That was the longest and worst plane ride in my life - AMERICAN AIRLINES YOU SUCK!!!! At least we went through Roma and missed the French air traffic controllers strike. Ten hours is way too long in that confined space. No babies or screaming Moms this time - just someone with gas tooting away (not me). My only entertainment was going to the restroom and flushing the toilet to watch all the tiny bits of paper on the floor get sucked into that incedibly strong inflow. I would giggle and do it again. Those Flight Attendants must have thought I was crazy. What happens if someone is actually sitting on it and flushes??? Trish - amazing job on these pictures. They came out so vivid and true. I can taste the cappucino froth....... oh damn my fate! Sorry to hear of your toilette distress, Erin. I can feel your pain. Tad, was that octopus better in Roma? You will have to describe every meal to me when we get together. I had a can of peaches and some shortbeard cookies from the plane for dinner tonight. Can't bear the thought of going to that crappy grocery store. Take care all and BE CAREFUL! Ciao, Jay
