After having an easy week visiting friends in Edinburgh, it was time to head off again, the Pentland Hills were ahead of me. Paris joined me on Friday, although he probably wishes he hadn't!! I had made plans to visit the Dogs Trust Centre at West Calder on Saturday, not realising it would take me two days to cross the hills. So I tried to take a short cut. . . not a good idea on the Pentlands! After giving up trudging through boggy marshes and battling against the wind and rain, I headed for what should have been a track (on my OS map!), instead followed a wall and over more boggy heather. Then one minute I lost my right leg down a hole (and in the process sprained my thumb which serves me right!) and the next minute I lost Paris down a hole. There was a tiny stream of water hidden under the heather. I could hear Paris splashing about in the water but I could not see him! As I pulled back the heather he just looked up at me with those sad eyes as if to say "how did that happen! And how do I get out of here?" Thankfully, although wet and covered in heather, he was fine. So on we trudged to meet Padi and Ben. On Saturday I met up with the staff at Dogs Trust Centre. The manager Susan Tonner showed me round. I also walked some dogs with Kim McGregor. On Sunday I continued over the Pentland Hills to West Linton. On Monday Julie from the Dogs Trust Centre joined me with Buster, and my Ben joined me too which was nice. Today I had Paris for company again walking (he says thankfully!) big open fields and then the old drove road to Peebles. Made it as far as the Meldon Hills, where we have decided to camp, hoping the sheep dont come down and visit us!
