Just got back from a long walk through Jaipur, my head is buzzing with all of the honking, watching my step constantly, watching the traffic, and of course wanting to see all of the stuff in the shops that is pouring out into the sidewalks, sparkly saris, copper bowls, piles of lentils, boiling oil woks full of samosas, and then of course open drain holes and piles of garbage.
The first week I was here I couldn't help but compair the desert to africa.  I have found in the second week that I have let India just be itself.  It is amazing to see a dusty village and a woman at the well sparkly and shimmery in the sun.  They wear so much jewellery, men included.  A person can be grimy, but still a part of them is shiny.  Lots of gold, men wear two earrings, lots of rings, and there is always sequins or metal thread or beads, it is very beautiful.
The streets are FULL of every imaginable kind of transportation, the obvious cars, buses and trucks, auto rickshaws, bike rickshaws, bikes, motorcycles, donkey carts, horse carts, camel carts, elephant carts, just try crossing the street with all of that going on!
We have been getting around a bit... a few heritage hotels in small villages.  We spent new years at one and all dressed up in saris and had a good time. Udaipur was beautiful, a great place to just sit back at a restaurant by the lake and relax.  Pushkar was full of crusty hippies, it is a huge spiritual mecca for hindus, so it attracts an interesting crowd.  We took a fun cooking class at a house and the family invited their journalist friend.  He took some pictures and we ended up in the paper the next day!

Hi Leslie
Love the blog. I guess your gonna be spreading the twig and string tricks around the world, and what about the hic-ups!

It was great travelling Rajasthan with you, look me up when you hit the UK.

Taj Maha....What!
Can't get over seeing you in front of the Taj Mahal...even in your photos it doesn't look real, like that shroud of mist is there to protect its sacredness somehow. Glad to hear that the tour has been a good one with a good mix of people. Wish you well on your next adventure and as always can't wait to hear about it!!!
ttfn,
Sara
