Lesson learned, if you splurge a little on a hotel, you get heat! Took the bus up to Frutillar, a lakeside town founded by german colonists at the turn of the 20th century. It is really beautiful, almost looks like germany, except there is a giant snow capped volcano across the lake! Lots of old german style houses, barns, cows. It is all beautiful rolling green countryside. Still dogs everywhere though. some just sort of follow alongside you, like they are looking for a friend. I feel sort of sorry for them. I spent alot of time walking, having hot chocolate and apfel strudel, and speaking more terrible spanish. I took a little day trip to the town of Puerto Octay for lunch. Again, I was the only one in the restaraunt and had a great talk with the waitress. then, when I got the bill, she proceeded to speak in beautiful english! She said she liked hearing my accent in spanish so she didnīt want to speak in english! great. Lots of kids are marching around the school grounds with really loud music blasting, practicing for the independence day parades (Sept. 18th) sort of cute to watch, you can tell they hate it.
I am sitting here waiting for a bus to pucon. I actually have to go to the side of the 5 freeway (same 5 as at home, but 100 times emptier!) and flag down the bus! There is a bus stop, but it is still kind of random. It is a big bus culture here, not many people have cars yet. Anyway, got to go and find some food for the bus ride.
