Kutna Hora Bones church

So on our way from Prague to Vienna we stopped off firstly at the bones church of Kutna Hora.

This is by far the creepiest church I have ever been to. It is decorated with the bones of some 40,000 people.  It supposedly all started around the time of the black plague, and there were so many bodies to bury over the years that they were starting to run out of space.. and everyone wanted their loved ones to buried in the same place.
So they started digging up old bones, and legend has it that some blind monk??! Started arranging them into geometric shapes... but then later on František Rint was commissioned to decorate the inside of the church.  There are chandeliers, coat of Arms, and pillars all made from human bones.. It's in some ways beautiful.. but when you think about it.. pretty disgusting!!!
However it was great to go and visit, because when else in my life am I going to visit a church like that.. I think they are pretty rare!

So after having visited the dead centre of town (haha.. no pun intended).. we went to the heart of Kutna Hora for a quick drinks stop and a look around.  However it was flippen cold.. so being the adventurous bunch we are,  almost all of us went to the nearest cafe and then stayed there in the warm until we had to be back on the bus!  I’m sure it’s a lovely little town though...
