MARIS - Hey Everyone! Whew....I'm hiding from the sun in this Internet cafe. This last week we've been on the beach in Ubatuba. We rented a room at a cheap "chalet", and definitely got what we paid for.....ants and sketchy mattresses. There was even a frog we named Frank that liked to stick to our front door. I'm not complaining though....we only needed somewhere to sleep! The rest of the time we spent on gorgeous sandy beaches and swimming in blue blue water. I rented a surfboard and was even able to catch some waves. One afternoon I wasn't paying attention to where I was surfing, and got pulled out with the undertow. It took me like 20 minutes to make it back to shore. The lifeguard guy was just running in after me when I came sputtering out of the ocean. Craaazy. Dara and I also took a trip on a schooner. We visited a couple of awesome islands, a creepy prison, and got to do a little snorkeling. I liked jumping off the boat and attempting not to belly flop every time I dived. It was tough saying goodbye to my friends we were sharing the hotel with (Hudson and Anna...muitos beijos), but I guess they got tired of me breaking everything.... At Catherinas house

.
I don't know how we'll get by without Hudson's doctoring skills and Anna's great humour.
Now we've moved onto another town about an hour north up the coast called Paraty. We just got here today, but it seems pretty wicked. Very old. I can't wait until the sun goes down a little so I can enjoy the sights! I want to check out the boats.
A lady asked me the other day, "what are you doing here in Brazil? Vacations?".  Not really...this is just the life we choose day by day. "E Vida!"

Dara - We're on our own once again...this could mean trouble.

Ubatuba was so much fun!  We hitched a ride there with some of the gang from Itapetininga - mostly because we thought the name sounded funny.  I'm glad we did!
The first day in Ubatuba was glorious.  We woke up early and spent the entire day outside at the beach.  Maris and Isaac wanted to explore some of the bigger rocks on the shore so I tagged along.  There was a lot of climbing and 'jumps of faith' involved.  I'm not a big fan of heights and creepy bug things so I almost called it quits...but no, I sucked it up and kept up with them for the whole trip (though I did need a boost now and again) BBQ

.  I was so proud of myself.  It was quite the adventure - we even explored caves.
The next day...um well, you get what you pay for... That whole day in the sun gave me quite the sun burn (I had put on lots of sunscreen, truly!) I was red and puffy and peeling.  It was gross.  I was out of commission for the next day and a half - spending the time instead in our beautiful little chalet.  yah!  Never one to waste a moment, I started writing a song about the painful experience.  Catchy little number, if I do say so myself.
I'm pretty much all peeled and recovered now.  I also bought and modified a huge hat to keep off the sun.  I've learned my lesson.

Isaac-  Hi all, waz up in the cold, cold north. hahahahaha *cough cough* ya anyway as you've read (well unless you just skipped what me sisters wrote) we have just left Ubatuba and it was awesome!!!. Beaches you could only imagine on a postcard and water so clear, you could see under it for what seemed like miles. The last week was spent on the beach swimming, snorkeling and having luaus. And though it is hard to shake our "white as snow" Canadian skin, I think we're getting a little darker (well except Dara, who has maneged to miss dark entirely and go straight to red hehe). Anywho, I got my first shot at a real football game (and not that American football) it was with Anna's dad's club. They (well as you might think) are really good. But I got close to scoring a few times and we ended in a 4-4 tie. Beames, I have yet to find any treasure but I went snorkeling and found some pretty neat stuff under the water (I'm still looking for gold and the town we're at has a gold mine). Ok write you all later.

Missin' you
Hi folks... Ask Maris to translate this...
Espero que vocês estejam bem... A última semana que passamos juntos foi incrível... me diverti muito com vocês... so funny!!!
Eu aprendi muito com todos vocês... várias palavras novas (Ukulele, 'borrow', that I need to catch my nose when it is running, that you can use the word 'beautiful' for a man etc.)... coisas que eu nem imaginava...
Boa sorte e boa viagem...
Miss you all...

Couple things...
Ok first off, kudos to Dara for taking my advice and braving the sun, Maris/Isaac, you should be so daring, you can't go dark quick unless you go red first. Secondly, keep up the treasure hunting Zick, if you stick with it, you'll find your 40% in no time. Also you should show a little Canadian pride, we don't let our 'Football' games end in a tie, you shoulda scored. Anyways, keep having fun, get some more sun, find some treasure, and keep us informed up here in the 'Cold North'
