Sunday we woke up and drove a short way to the Badlands and a wild life scenic loop.  we drove all day and probably didn't go more than 100 miles, but look all the environments we saw.

The badlands national park is thirty-five miles of these rock formations.  You can look out over it and forget your on earth.  Off the path, thick red mud stuck to our shoes.  It was only in the thirties and windy, even though it looks like the desert, we knew it wasn't. It was a good day to be in the car since we only pack for summer (as you'll see we were wearing the same clothes the next day.

After the badlands, we hit a famous drug store in Wall, SD.  Wall Drug got to be famous by offering free ice water to travelers during the great depression, and today its a huge souvinier shop, museum and eatery Black Hills Forest

.  Our interest was peaked by the hundreds of Wall Drug signs on the highway leading to it.  we had a couple of tasty hot roast beef sandwiches and are still working on the fresh-made maple dough nuts.

A neighboring camper suggested a nature loop so we put it in the itinerary (all the campers and townies are really nice, everywhere we go there are conversations).  it was very hilly and foggy, but we saw some cool animals,  Those prairie dogs came right up to the window, the buffalo were right on the side of the road and three big horned rams were hanging out in the woods.  but those hills, I would have liked to known my gas mileage through there, but we keep forgetting to write down either mileage or gallons two stops in a row.

We camped down in hill city, and off the mt. Rushmore in the morning...
