He recommended a friends place HOTEL JARDINES which was a few kilometers from the town area. Our drive was rather good as the road weren't bad as I heard they would be. Honestly....people have never been to Trinidad! All the road were great on my part (even the unpaved ones!) and I'm still waiting to see the very winding roads!!! But...this is just the opinion of a Trinidadian who grew up in a very remote village!
My first need to take pictures was when the roads got all misty and apparently this part of the drive always has rain and clouds
We drove past our hotel and into the town as we missed it completely. But...these places are geared towards tourism and it was very easy to find help. There are all these tourist info boots all over so things were easy to find.
Arenal is famous for its Volcano. It was generally quite cloudy so getting crisp bright shots was difficult. We spent about 4 days in La Fortuna. We mostly did things that were less expensive or we didn't have to pay and could have done on our own. We paid to do the Arenal Canopy tour (10USD) where there were several hanging bridges. Was able to spot some Monkeys which was one of the highlights of the 2.5 hours walk. Small waterfall and ofcourse the hanging bridges. Later we in the evening we wanted to try out the famous hotsprings. There are many that you have to pay 40-70USD to use like BALI and TABACON. Since we are on a budget, the lovely girl and Jardines told us that opposite Tabacon, you can use the springs for FREE
During the couple of days we did some small hikes through nature parks, and a hike to Catarata Waterfall. This was a very good experience as walking back up from these falls, I was so out of breath! I was ready to drop at the top. Please attempt if you are in good shape...I was not! There is little night life, several restaurants and bars and mainly people hang out in the park. We wanted to go back to the hot springs but I think we were just exhausted from the days....we passed it up.
Our next drive was to MONTEVERDE!!!!
