Hello from Palm Springs - lovely place. We travelled here from San Diego and took the coast road up north to Torrey Pines State Park and then on to a town called Del Mar. We stopped here at the beach for a couple of hours so Paul and Emma could perfect their boogie boarding skills. The beach was beautiful - full of people (we wonder why they haven't got jobs!) and the waves were massive. The beach was about 2 miles long with loads of life guard stations along it and houses/hotels right on the front. Alongside the sea front the there is a train track and the main trains from San Diego to Los Angles go - so as we were enjoying the beach these massive trains flew past.
From Del Mar we went to the next town and had lunch and happened to come across some old London Buses which are used to take people to the Races. Paul took some pictures (of course) and had a little chat with the drivers.
We then took the back roads to Palm Springs rather than the motorway as we thought this would be a bit more scenic . Our lovely Sat Nav lady didn't like it and told us for around 2 miles to turn around but then decided to go with us. The further inland we went the hotter and drier the landscape became and we took the Pines to Palms highway which went up over 3000 feet through the desert like mountains and past native american reservations. When we got to the top we had to come down to the valley to get into Palm Springs which was a winding road but the view from the top of the valley was fantastic.
Palm Springs is surprisingly lovely (didn't know what to expect) - it is their low season here at the moment - most people come in the winter when it is a little warmer. At the moment it averages about 100 degrees each day. All around the pool at our hotel has little sprays of mist to cool you down. They had these again in the main street where we had dinner and visited the local street market
Las Vegas where we are heading next will be great .... hot and is on the hottest parts of the country in USA today paper according to their Weather Pages. Death Valley which we will travel through next week has been the hotest place in the country for the last 2 days at 118 degrees.
Thats all for now folks,
