I had a 4 hour train ride (2 am-4am), a 1.5 hour shared taxi ride, a 2 hour wait, and then a 40 minute boat ride to get to the islands! I arrived at Long Beach on Perhentian Kecil and was situated in the midst of the most beautiful ocean colors. The beach is in the shape of a crescent moon with thick, powdery soft, pure white sand. The beach fades into the ocean slowly, giving the visitors a nice shallow area to swim or play in; the pale indigo blues of the ocean recede into darker hues until you see the sky meeting the ocean at the horizon, the sky blue meets the turquoise water and forms a remarkable division between the earth and the heavens. Ok, ok - too much fluff! Anyway, the sand is so thick and soft it almost seems gooey! (that's good) The bay area catches a consistent soft breeze and is surrounded by lush and tropical green hills with coconut trees everywhere. It's said to be Malaysia's most beautiful locale, I have to agree that it's the most amazing beach I've ever been to 1Coral Reef

. I immediately hooked up with a diving company , Spice Divers, and went out to D'Lagoon Rocks dive site. The dive started poorly with barely 3 meters of visibility, but after rounding a nearby bay and releasing from the thermocline, we were all treated to 20 meters of vis., exotic rock and coral formations, schools of small fish, and a large Malabar grouper. There weren't any sharks or turtles, but maybe tomorrow ,morning when I dive the islands premier dive site.

M June 21 (PPK) The dive today was nice, a large pinnacle rock resting on a coral bed...not the greatest , but a nice site. I got another headache after diving and think I might be wearing my mask too tight, so next dive I'll try loosening it and hope that the water doesn't invade my mask because sea water and contacts DO NOT mix well together! I bumped into Richard (from Cherating), which eventually led to tossing the Frisbee around in the cool water with another Brit named Jules. This then led to relaxing on the beach with an even larger group and meeting Jamo from Canada and Juliano from Brazil...which led to a large dinner party that included Pat, our dive instructor, which led to a night of drinking, then to a bar showing the England v. Croatia World Cup match and to Pats drinking games and then I remember going to be sometime but that's about it!
