The rest of the weekend we just relaxed and before Chris' bus on Sunday we went to the big E-Mart, like a Korean WalMart, in Sokcho so Chris could stock up on some supplies not found in his small town.
Chris came up from his little town for the weekend, so we had a chance to chill and catch up and let Chris look around the big city life for a while! The next day we went with two other teachers to Osaek National Park. The really great thing about Gangwon, the province we live in, is that it's surrounded by Korea's best parks and mountains. So, respite in the mountains is only a short drive away! Anyway, we hiked through the park and its natural spring wells and ponds. A river snakes through the park, so you are constantly surrounded by mountains and the background noise of running river waters. It's a really nice park, nothing amazingly stunning, but very beautiful and quiet. Eventually, if you hike long enough, you come to a nice waterfall that cascades into and multi-colored pool. Then we turned back to make the hike back to the car. After hiking, we went to a local sauna and later found a restaurant that served samgyetang, which is basically Korean-style chicken soup. It's fantastic as it's a whole (small) chicken that has rice and ginseng stuffed inside in a stock soup. This thing is like super-charged chicken soup - it's definitely cure what ails you and the ginseng can really get your motor running!
