Definitely much more my style! Ao Nang is really beautiful and there are so many things to do. There's a national park just down the road, there are good places to eat and chill out where you're not constantly bothered by working girls, and then there is Railay just a short boat ride away. Railay is a small, curved peninsula with fantastic beaches that also happens to be one of the better rock climbing destinations in SE Asia. This area of Thailand is so striking...you have these pink and white limestone rocks and cliffs that seem to just jump out of the emerald and sky blue waters! On Railay, you can climb these cliffs, there are caves to explore, superb beaches, an interesting penis shrine, and amazing sunsets. Highly, highly recommended!
Of course, I met a few other travelers and we ran around Railay during the day and then partied at night in Ao Nang. Like I said above, it's a really great place just a tiny bit off the main backpacker circuit, so it's a good place to get away from the hordes and chill.
