Not too much to tell, just winding down from the vacation and gearing up for work again. I started my first few days at ECC and think I will like it so much better than NOVA. It just seems all-around better. Other than that, I had an Italian dinner with Paul and Choni from Brisbane and also booked my summer vacation to Thailand! Maybe I wrote it before, but with ECC I get paid vacation from August 6-19 and found a good deal to Thailand for 9 days, so I'm pretty excited about that!
So later that week I started ECC training today. I think this company will be much better than Nova...the training is far and away better and I think I'll feel more like a "real" teacher here. There are some interesting people in the training class. A guy from Alabama named Chris, a Canadian named Danyk, and this crazy Tasmanian named Toby.
Anyway, training is going well and I'm probably doing the best out of anyone, so hopefully that'll give me an advantage when they find regular schools to place us in. Also, this week, I went to a fireworks celebrating Ocean Day. Summers in Japan are filled with festivals involving fireworks...some say that's the only way to get Japanese people out during the hot and sticky summer months! But this show was over Osaka Bay near this huge ferris wheel, which gave it a nice backdrop. I went with Brain from Hawaii and a local bartender named Mika. After the show we dropped in this bar that had a live band and it was too fun. Turns out this is a local hang out for the Universal Studios Japan workers, so we met quite a few interesting people and partied until the last train! We'll definitely have to go back sometime!
