Week 8 (12.05 - 12.11.02) - I'm officially done with kids training so I can start teaching kids, which is what I really wanted to from the beginning. Unfortunately, my branch only has man-to-man...I'd prefer group kids, but maybe if I really dig it I can transfer to another branch that has more kids. It looks like I'll be having a regularly scheduled Sunday night outing with some co-workers who are down for dinner after work. We end up, again, at the Elephant Café in Kobe, at what is supposed to be a combination hello and goodbye dinner. Hello for us new teachers and goodbye to this girl from New Zealand who is heading home after almost a year of working in Japan. Funny thing is that quite a few NZers come here for a few years and then head home for a few years and then come back in this almost never-ending cycle because the exchange rate from Japan to NZ is so good, that its just too much money for them to pass up.
By the way, I went ot my first movie in Japan, The Ring, which is the American version of a Japanese film based on a Japanese book called The Ring. Pretty decent movie, but it cost Y1800, that's $15 US!! Man, movies will be few and far between for me...but I will go see the second Lord of the Rings when it comes out here. Luckily, they have a huge digital theater near my place, although who knows when it will get here. Example, I saw Minority Report in early June in Denver, well, it just came out into the theaters here!! The movie comes out on DVD next week for Chris' sakes!! Lets just say that with some movies there's a bit of a lag! As for anything else going on here, the only other event of interest was that when I did a few hours of overtime, I was invited to a co-workers birthday party and it happened to be by the same train station that I am moving to...a Y300 ($2.50) anything bar named Orugon. I met quite a few other Nova teachers and the birthday party ended up being for a guy I met at kids training a week earlier, Alistair from Scotland.
