So Kenny and I leave his homeland for my homland in his nifty little Chevy S10 pickup, which in the middle of the night in the swaplands of Louisiana, decided to act up. We're driving down the highway when this loud pop goes off simultaneously with a flash of brilliant blue light from underneath the truck! BANG - another pop and blue flash sound off. Then the dashboard lights start fading in and out followed by the headlights going out. We start desperately searching for a hotel, both because its 2 am and the truck is about to die! We pull into one hotel that turned out to be full, but they directed us to another down the road, which we pull into as the truck kicks out a final CRACK, blue lights flash, and then the truck dies in front of the hotel office ("please have a room available"). Luckily they have an open room, so we push the truck into a parking space and crash for the night.

The next morning, we find that the alternator needs replacing (this was confirmed by the local who thought it'd be cool to show us his sawed off .22 rifle for some reason)...30 minutes later we installed a new alternator and were on our way to Houston. Crossing the Texas border was cool and I could actually feel it in my body as we got closer!

Arriving in Houston we met Brent at his office and he showed us around his business (Brent runs an international tire business - imports and sales) before taking us to his interesting downtown three-story townhouse. And his place is definitely downtown because as we turn onto his street and park next to his place we're staring at the Houston skyscrapers...if we just kept driving straight we would have run ito them! His place is really nice and we met Zoe, his beautiful Lab mix dog, which of course I had lots of fun playing with!

We stayed in Houston for three days meeting some old friends, Cortney from university days; Nate from high school and university days; Janna from the old Austin party scene; and a special new friend - Tina, Brents fiance, who you know would have to be quite a woman if she beat Brent into submission! Well, she lived up to the hype and is great and really sweet and you can see how happy Brent is with her, which made her tops in my book!

We had fun nights out and had some great food. We got rained in one day...I'm talking sheets of rain! I got to play with Zoe quite a bit and as Kenny went off one day with a friends sister from back home, Zoe and I walked about and had lunch at a nice restaurant/bar that allows dogs...Brent was right, Zoe is a chick magnet!! ;)
