I just dug this area so much I wanted to put more pictures up! - I awoke and just hung out at the guesthouse enjoying the view and how quiet it was. Romeo, Rita's husband, has a family passed down and well-preserved Ifugao hut that he lets the guesthouse visitors go into. It's actually so nice that anthropologists have come and stayed in the hut for months at a time. Everything is hand-carved and it was a place to eat and sleep and cook food and store rice. It's elevated and squat and the wood is very dark from the smoke from the cooking fire. It's pretty cool but a bit difficult to explain, nonetheless very interesting to see and visit. As I'm preparing to leave Stefen decides to join me because he wants to get back to Manila, which is cool b/c it gives me someone to travel with and kill some time. So we hike out of the village and through the valley, getting a last glimpse before hiking up some cut-in steps, actually about 300 of them. Then we hike down to the main road hoping to catch a jeepney back to Banaue. We walk for about two hours and finally hop on one with a German family and they graciously let us hitch with them. Back in town we just shower up, have a big mean, and go for a drink at Banaues only live music joint. There are about 6 people in there, including us and a really eager guy from Baguio strikes up a conversation with us and I think it's pretty funny because now Stefen can experience my life in China, constantly being surrounded and looked at and everyone calls you their best friend. It's a bit overwhelming fro Stefen though and we leave hoping to catch some rest for the 9 hours to Manila tomorrow.
