Santa Lucía is a city in the Candelones Department of southern Uruguay. It is located on the intersection of Route 11 with Route 63, about 60 kilometres (37 mi) northwest of the capital city of Montevideo. The river Rio Santa Lucia, after which the city is named, flows along the northwestern limits of the city
The camping is located on the north side next to the Rio Santa Lucia, just after the bridge. Fishing is permitted from the camp, and no license in required.
Santa Lucía was founded in 1782 with the name of Villa San Juan Bautista. Its status was elevated to "City" category on 15 June 1925 by decree Ley No. 7.837.
According to the 2004 census, Santa Lucía had a population of 16,475.
