We awoke to find crunchy frost / snow on the ground (and over most of the cars in the campground). It was still really cold, so we had a cooked breaky before heading to Stirling - about 45 mins away.

Now we weren't going to stay long - just long enough to see Stirling Castle (considered by some to be the most important castle in Scotland) and the William Wallace Monument (obviously as in Braveheart).

Suddenly it was 4pm and not far off being dark! (Now the Wallace Monument was pretty good, but the castle - take it or leave we thought). So after trying again & having no luck with the camping brochure, we decided to drive the 90 minutes towards St. Andrews - cause if we had to sleep on the side of the road, we might as well do it in the actual town we wanted to be in!

About 30 minutes down the road we saw a camping sign & Ian spotted lights in the distance - so we thought we'd give it a go ... and it was open! Excellent, another hot shower!

Next morning we headed the rest of the way to St. Andrews - the Home of Golf. We spent nearly 3 hours at the British Golf Museum - it was really interesting & well set up ... and because it was Festival Week (what the?) the entry was free! Bonus!

We popped over to have a look at the 'Old Course' and to see the beach used in the filming of 'Chariots of Fire' as well. It was quite an interesting day - especially when you add that we drove right into the middle of the special day when 1st year uni students dress up like freaks & get plastered with shaving cream by the older students! Now that was quite a sight. Apparently it's an age old tradition (although we can't remember the actual name of the day).

We drove past St. Andrews Castle & cathedral on the way out, before taking the coastal scenic route back towards Edinburgh. We stopped at a place called Anstruther & parked down by the harbour to eat our lunch.

We continued on into Edinburgh, reaching our campsite about 5.30pm. It's not as cold tonight ... hopefully it stays that way!
