Hi all.

Our first Wales stop was Caerphilly & the Caerphilly Castle. It was huge, still pretty ruined and surrounded by a massive moat. The main hall couldn't have been too bad though - there was a wedding going on inside!

We made a quick stop at the tourist information and the nice lady there rang a couple of campsites for us until we found one that was open. So after our day in town, we headed out to the caravan park - arriving at 5.30pm in pitch darkness. We don't mind the lack of daylight hours though, as long as we know where we're going to stay.

We drove into Cardiff to check out Cardiff Castle. It was quite impressive - and nice to see a castle that was 'put back together' and no longer in ruins. Then we took a short trip out to see the St Fagan Museum of Life in Wales. It was a similar set up to the outdoor museums we saw in Sweden & Norway, where they have moved & rebuilt a variety of houses, churches, farmhouses, shops & buildings, etc from a lot of different time periods, all in the one woodland area. So that was pretty interesting too.

We chose another campsite from our (so far) pretty handy 'Campsites in Wales' brochure, arrived just before 6pm, and settled in for the night.

Next morning we were going to go to Swansea, but changed our minds & went to the Gower area instead. It wasn't very fruitful, but we did go to the ruins of a castle in a place called Pennard which had us trudgin through the local golf course (complete with both golfers and cows!) in order to reach it! But the views out onto the bay were worth the walk.

Next we drove to another place looking for King Arthur's Stone (an ancient burial ground) but we had no luck finding it. So we continued on to the ruins of Kidwelly Castle. It was quite good, despite being ruins, we were still able to move over alot of the original castle (and we're talking no more recent than the 1400s!)
