Bonjour peoples ... we're back in France!
We decided on a little bit of culture along the way to Paris, so we headed for Epernay, the home of Champagne. Unfortunately when we arrived that night, we couldn't find any camping (sound familiar?) and had to drive back 35km the way we'd come!
After a nice night at the campsite we found (free wifi), we headed back into Epernay the next morning. On the way, we stopped at a place called Fagnieres to pick up supplies for the next few nights in Paris. The shopping centre had a Post Office, so we went & inquired about the price of posting some stuff home.
We ended up pulling the car apart & standing in the Post Office as the lady behind the counter was trying to shove all our stuff into a box ... but the funniest part was when Ian got up on the counter to try & help her close it!
After all our fun at the PO, we continued on to Epernay. There were heaps of Champagne makers in town (all with amazing buildings!), but naturally we decided to go with Moet & Chandon!
The tour takes you down into their cellars where they explain all about the history of Champagne & Moet, and you can see all the bottles & magnums of Champagne maturing away. The tour was very interesting & informative ... and the little tasty at the end was pretty good too!
Did you know that they have 26km of tunnels under their building to store their Champagne in ... at up to 25m underground?!
Now that we've had our taste of bubbly ... Paris, here we come!
