Buonjourno!
Sorry for the apparent lateness of the previous entries ... trying to find internet access is like trying to chocolate cake crumbs on my plate!!!
We arrived over the border and stayed at a place called San Lorenzo. Next morning we made our way towards Genova (Genoa) - where one of the Lonely Planet recommended rides leaves from. We ended up at a place just past Genova, at a place called Nervi.
The coastline along the way has been really pretty. We decided to stay a couple of days, cause Ian just seems to do nothing but drive at the moment!
Each morning he got up and gone out for a ride - he said the hills are tough work, but fun!
We drove into Genova one day & saw the port, the black & white marble cathedral & lots of other old buildings.
Went to the beach when we got back to the campsite (which was way up a mountain - awesome views, but lots of steps down to the beach & back!)
We continued on round the Gulf of Genoa. Headed to La Spezia (stayed about 20 minutes out) so we could do the Cinque Terre (that's chink-way terray for you Italian enthusiasts) hike. It means five lands & is a stretch of path & goat track that joins together 5 small villages along the Italian coastline. The hike is about 10 kms (part walk / part hike).
We stopped at on of the 5 towns (Corniglia) on the way to La Spezia. The views were just awesome. Ian rode some of it the first morning ... more even steeper hills!
Well, we did the Cinque Terre walk. It took us about 5 hours (including munchie stops & swim breaks). The scenery for most of the walk was really great - towns just hanging off cliffs and continuing down to rocky bays.
Ian got his wish and we had gnocchi & pesto for dinner! It was fresh from the supermarket & we cooked it up ourselves ... YUM!
