We flew out from Athens in the afternoon and arrived in Budapest at 5.30pm. (it only took 2 hours and we got one back along the way!)

Before leaving the airport we changed our 7am flight tomorrow for the 5.30pm one (saves being at the airport at 5 o'clock ... which was probably going to be tough on public transport!)

Our hotel was an hour from the airport. Once we had settled in (it was just as dodgy as some of the really cheap places we stayed at in South America!), we got directions to the supermarket and the internet. Luckily we had a little kitchenette, so we cooked our own pasta for dinner.

Next morning we checked out, left our bags in the luggage storeroom and went for a walk round town. We saw the River Danube (with heaps of cruise boats on it), the Parliament building and St. Stephens Basilica. The buildings here are quite old. Some have been cleaned up and look great, others are still waiting their turn. There's a real medieval castle look and feel about the place (but perhaps that's just my European naivety). Budapest is hoping to put in for the 2020 Olympics, so we imagine that a few more buildings will be getting face lifts before too long!

It seems like there could be some really nice places to visit here - both in the city and out in the rest of Hungary. We don't think we'll get much of a chance on our drive through Europe, but you never know.

Could be one for a later visit perhaps???!!!

Lucky Guys
Good to see that even though you've left South America you're still enjoying your travels. If you get a chance to get back to see more of Brazil, take it. It only gets more awesome the further North you go.

See you in the UK later this year.
