A Meteroa-ic Side Trip

We just got back from a two day side trip that we decided to do after talking to one of the girls staying here at the hostel. It was a trip up to Delphi to visit the ancient sanctuary and Temple of Apollo (an archaeological site), then the Apollo Museum where they had some amazing relics, statues & treasures from as far back as the 6th century BC. It was really good, there just wasn't enough time there (especially the museum). It was a bit of a drive (just over 3 hours out).
We continued on through central Greece, across the Thessalian plain (which used to be all water!), then into the town of Kalambaka where we stayed the night in a fairly good hotel (dinner and breakfast included!).
The next morning they picked us back up and we continued on to Meteora to see some monasteries built on the top of amazing giant rock formations. On the way home we passed through Thermopylae (think the movie '300'), and actually got to see the area where King Leonidas was killed with his Spartan army. It was a pretty good trip (about $250 Oz each though), but one we will now have to fit back into our budget! Dry bread and water til we hit the islands now! Ha, ha! More thumbnails ...
