Almost to the Vic border
Entry 3 of 12 | show all | print this entry |
After all the dramas of yesterday, whilst we heard our 6am alarm, for something completely different, we decided to ignore it. By the time we had breaky, packed up & headed out, it was 9am (and getting warm!) Kylie took the 1st shift - 222km to Wudinna, passing through towns with awesome names like Poochera. But Poochera was easily beaten when Ian took over the driving from Wudinna to Port Augusta - the new fav is Iron Knob! He was actually quite disappointed that we didn't pass through the eye of the knob, merely brushing past it on the way. Kylie played Kitchen Hand for the feast - just vegemite, we were out of sliced cheese! We hit Port Augusta just before 2pm ... or should I say 'Ian Town'!!! In one 200m stretch we saw 'Ian's Laundromat', 'Ian's Western Hotel' & 'Ian's Chicken Hut'!!! But we pushed on. It was stinking hot in Port Augusta - we heard later on the radio that it was 45 degrees. We then headed off down the coastline towards Adelaide. Ian was still driving and ignored several petrol stations for fill up & change over along the way. (Oh no, surely not again!) I didn't mind that he avoided Snowtown though ... after all, you might get more than you bargained for there - it's not exactly a barrel of laughs! (Poor taste, I know!)
We filled up & changed over at Point Wakefield and the next leg was very interesting. Heading into the city, Ian was navigator & Kylie was nervous driver. We only made one wrong decision, but it was enough to turn me into a stressed out Sally. Ian kept offering to take over, but I wanted to finish what I had started. Anyway, we were soon through the drama and on our way out of Adelaide towards the Vic border. We were making quite good time, so kept readjusting our final stopping point for the day (don't worry, we had plenty of fuel!) Eventually we decided on Tintinara (about 150km out of Adelaide heading South East) The tent is up, wine & cheese are on the table, and we are about to plan out tomorrow's route ... Great Ocean Road here we come!
