We arrived at tea time, just enough time to find a cheap campsite and look for a cosy pub to spend the evening. It was cold, wet and windy so we grabbed a pack of cards and snuggled up in a very popular local pub, with the idea to hug a pint of ale and have ourselves a feast.  We played cards and slowly sipped our ale till we reached a time where we were hungry, I kept telling Justin to hurry up and order our steak n ale pies as it was getting busy and I didn't want to miss out, and on the second time I mentioned it he headed over to the till to order.  I saw his face drop as he looked at the menu again, yes that’s right they only had one pie so he ordered himself something else off the menu.  As he returned from the bar I tried to hold it in honestly I really did but I couldn’t hold it for any longer "I told you so" there it was...ahhh!  We played cards and I lost then the waiter brought Justin’s Pork dinner out and I waited and waited, then I asked the waitress where my pie was, Oh she forgot to order it, so we got a free pint as an apology while I awaited another one to cooked, happy days!

Hanmer Springs Spa is very popular with tourists, also locals from Christchurch drive over on a weekend to relax as it’s only a short drive away.  It has hot thermal springs with a multitude of different pools to basically just sit in whilst getting attacked by mosquitoe’s.  As it was pouring down with rain we thought it was a perfect day to spend there, we sat in a sulphur pool which was 42degrees so I was in my element bar the smell.  Justin got dizzy with the heat.  It was great to chat to people though, we chatted to some locals who gave us places to visit and some other tourists who have travelled in the opposite direction to us and they gave us accommodation ideas.  We managed to pass a couple of hours bobbing about chatting.  We decided to stay another night as the campsite was really cheap and the following day we went to play crazy golf, I don’t think I have done that since I was 10 but it was great fun on the way out the owner gave us a 'buy on get one free’ on tea in the pub across the road so we headed in there for our freebie,  I noticed the pool table was all lined up so I asked if we had to pay or was it free, the barmaid said the previous person just left it like that and we were goo to play a game.  One game over and the balls popped out the table at no cost so we stayed there a couple of hours playing pool and again Justin won.  We paid on arrival for the first night on the campsite and tried to pay for the second night on a card and the owners son said “ahh just pay later” so we took that as “Tonight is a freebie” so the following morning we packed up and drove out the campsite right past reception giggling like a pair of kids when 1km down the road I realised I had left my battery charged in the campsite kitchen and we had to head back, we raced past reception again, I grabbed it and we raced back for a third time, this time a little more worried he might chase after us and let’s face it in Tony that would be very easy to do!  We decided to heat to Westport on the west coast as the weather forecast was really good for the following 3-4 days, we drove over Lewis Pass where there was snow lying crazy considering it’s Spring here, Tony really did us proud as he battled on up the pass and into glorious sunshine at the other end.
