We packed up early as we woke up a little wet after all the rain, yes the tent had leaked so we thought this might be the best time to take the tent back and upgrade to a new/bigger/better one .....Yes I can sit up in it now! We had no hassle at all changing it they just swopped them over which was great.  We then drove to Wanganui, a historical town that sits on the banks of Wanganui River, cheap houses and a large art community. We found a great hostel with a garden big enough for us to set up camp and use all the great facilities on offer.  I got chatting to an English guy who had lived in New Zealand for 4 years and was packing up to return back to the UK, I explained that we were camping and our backs were aching a bit so we were going to upgrade our roll mats etc and before I knew it on his way out he kindly gave me an air roll mat and a lamp for the tent and off he went.

We decided to drive up Durie Hill which is one of the main tourist attractions, it has a lift up to the top of the hill which costs $5, so we decided not to pay and drive up, we did get great views over the town and climb a memorial tower, now when I say we what I actually mean is Justin climbed up the tower because I got sick....Again when I got scared so high up (really need to kick this fear of heights). We then drove to Virginia Reserve, which is a lovely lake with lakeside walks, so we spent a couple of hours walking around the lake watching all the birds, we wandered through a rose garden  then  sat for a bite to eat.  There was also a bird sanctuary where Traybird got to meet lots of different types of parrots and other birds, it was great weather which made it a really good day.

We  headed to Paraparamu to set up camp for the night and when we awoke Justin released he left his coat in Wanganui and wanted to drive back for it so we headed back there picked the coat up then turned around and headed south to Wellington.
