It is definitely worth to spend a day or 2 here and check out these extraordinary temples. If you feel bored I have some good advice for an alternative excursion. Rent a bike (50 Rs a day) and go towards the mountains which you see from Khajuraho. You pass the old city and follow a road which bends to the left
. It takes about 20 minutes and close to the mountains at a rice field you park your bike and find a path going upwards through the trees. A little challenge will bring you up to a hole in a rock and from there you can wander around on the mountain range and enjoy the view. I dropped some of my travel cards so if you find one please send me a message.Practical stuff
- For a basic cheap room (150 – 200 Rs) go to Rakshan Guesthouse which is next to Osaka guesthouse.
- Rent a bike and explore the surroundings for (half a) day.
A cold and shitty train ride took me to the small town of Khajuraho. The erotic carvings that swathe Khajuraho's three groups of World Heritage–listed temples are among the finest temple art in the world and reason enough to check it out. The temples impressed me more than I imagined before coming here. They are massive and full of detailed carvings from which most of them erotic. Strange to think that sex is such a stigma here in India and that 1000 years ago the people already created these temples with some shocking sexual positions, orgies and even a man having sex with a horse.
