My longest stay in India and what a place to stay! A total different experience from anywhere else in India. Here practically everything is allowed: you can buy and drink alcohol anywhere including on the streets, drugs are available when you ask and smoking a joint in a restaurant is not a problem at all, walking around half naked, Italian pizza's and steaks are present at almost any menu. And the funny thing is that the alcohol is actually a lot cheaper here than in Delhi or Mumbai which is ofcourse GREAT!
I reunited here with my Dutch friend Aron and South African friend Natasha who I met in McLeod Ganj and Aron I met for the 4th time. Good to be together and after 2 days we already made some new friends from Holland, Germany and Korea. Good fun altogether and the days here are a blessing. Swimming, playing football, relaxing on the beach or at a bar, and at night looking for some party
Yoga tunred out to be quite the day activity as well and I believe I have been 4 or 5 times to the 2 hour Yoga session and it was very relaxing.
Furtermore I can say that there are a lot of bars/ restaurants here but real party places are rare. Still we had fun on some Psi Trance parties and the unforgettable hippy parties where a gipsy band plays and sings and people sit around the camp fire clapping along and enjoying the vibe.
With Christmas eating out at the Laughing Buddha and meeting wonderful people like Julian, Joren, Martin, Lydwien, Katerine and the Korean girl which name is too difficult to remember. In the days after Christmas several people left to other places so there was only a Dutch 'boyband’ left with Aron, Joren, Martin, Niek and me. After many days of beach Aron and me already decided to hire a scooter or motorbike and see a bit more of the environment. The 30th we managed to do this and equipped with a scooter a very old motorcycle we went around to the beaches of Baga, Anjuna and some others. A nice road trip and good to do something different and active for a change.
Then the last day of the year was there and the Dutch combination turned out to be successful because the night was one to remember (even though we have difficulties to remember it haha). What a great location to celebrate the New Year on the beach in a warm environment with dozens of bars to choose from, campfires to sit at and walking around on your bare feet the whole night
At 9 am the next morning it was time to go to bed and the 1st of January cannot really be called a day so the 2nd January was the last day in Arambol where me and Aron enjoyed the beach and ocean for the last time. Had a last supper where we ate fresh Hammerhead shark (!?!?!) and Kingfish with chips and salad and that all together for 7 euro.
- Go for the Yoga in Arambol, the name of the Yogi is Veejay and it is close to the beach on the shopping street.
- For good meat go to the Laughing Buddah on the beach
- If you want to hire a scooter do it before Christmas because towards the new year the prices go up
- We stayed at Piya guesthouse for 600 Rupees a night (incl. new years eve). The guest house is ok and the restaurant on the other side of the road is a good place to meet fellow travelers.
