For me it was the city where I bought new flip-flops and ofcourse I did more because I have been to Elephanta island to see the caves there. Then walked around in the city and traveled by bus, train, rikshaw and taxi to see the Dharavi slum and 'The Wall Project'. The latter is a 3 km wall in the middle of the city which is painted by artists and where everybody can demonstrate their talent
I had one nice (but expensive) evening with a Dutch couple I met on the boat from Elephanta island and they were really cool people so we talked a lot and discovered the Mumbai nightlife a bit. Mumbai is not that bad I can say!
- Do not go to Elephanta island if you will see more caves later in Ajanta or Ellora for example. The caves on Elephanta are quite disappointing and will cost you precious time and money.
- Use the Mumbai train network, fun, cheap and effective.
