Where I stayed
Next found a new place at the National Hotel in the Piassa area where all the bars are. A nice but crowded place and you have to look out for your belongings. Bought some souvenirs together with my friend Aemro at the local market and had lunch again with him and girlfriend. In the evening after dinner I came to discover that I lost my phone (DAMN ?!?!?!?!?). I don’t know exactly if I left it at the restaurant or it fell out of my pocket or maybe it is stolen
- When going to the airport you can get a minibus from Ras Mekonin Avenue opposite the stadium. This will cost you 4 birr instead of 200 by taking taxi. From there it is a 10 minute walk to the airport.
- If you want to get rid of your Birrs then it is better to do it in town than on the airport. The airport is about 6 times as expensive!
As described in the many stories about Ethiopia and the blog on OneWorld (http://www.oneworld.nl/bloggen/lezersblogs/7-jaar-terug-de-tijd-en-andere-rariteiten), Ethiopia is completely different than other African countries. For a traveler this is interesting but for a solo (budget) traveler there are quite some hurdles, predominantly in communication. Maybe it is because I am a 'Brabander’ and I love and value the social life, talking to people, having fun together, drinking a beer. This is hard to find and for me this was a big miss. Although Ethiopia has very much to offer and I met nice people for me this is my least favorite country I have been to so far and I had a lot of frustrations which I never had before.
