Where I stayed
Tana Guest House
- Tana Guest House is recommended with rooms varying from 500 Ksh to 1.300 Ksh depending on what luxury you need.
- The buses to Lamu do not go from the main matatu stand but somewhere else. Ask a boda-boda to take you there and you will pay 700 Ksh for a ticket on a big bus.
Together with Ukunda this is the main beach spot in Kenya. Malindi feels like a small Mombasa, busy streets with boda-boda's, matatu’s and bajiaji’s, a lot of shops, food in the streets, etc. For me this feels good and I stayed in the middle of town at Tana Guest House, a professional run guesthouse and affordable. The other side of Malindi is the Italian big spending tourists and residents. In the main street of Malindi there are about 4 or 5 big clubs where you see many Italian old guys with pretty young Kenyan ladies. It was low season now so hardly any people in the clubs so I also spend some time in the local bars where the beer is cheaper and there are more people. On the beach played football with some kids and played with the waves like a little child.
