After one year and three months I returned to Moshi, town of the Chagga people, Viafrica and ofcourse the snowcapped Kilimanjaro. When leaving the bus I felt a happy feeling inside as returning home because that's how it feels. Walking through the streets of Moshi and enjoying its atmosphere.

Then the moment was there, entering the Viafrica premises. There they are, Alfani and Madjidi the guards, Lina, Terewa, Freddy, Joshua, Thomas and Erwin. Two faces were missing but the three new faces of Baraka, Maureen and Edna made up for it. I was back. Also I met up with other friends in Moshi like Akim, Taher, Samy and Franzi who has now her own bar (check out

My goal was to set up the e-waste initiative for Viafrica. A plan that was already there for a few years but never really started up. Now it was up to me to make a good start so that a dedicated Viafrica e-waste employee would continue the work. The first days did a lot of reading and it felt that I have only been away for a few weeks although it was more than a year.

During my time in Moshi I was not the only Viafrica consultant because I met up with Ronald who was looking into the Sales process of Viafrica. Ronald is a regular jogger and I thought it was good for me to exercise a little as well so we jogged the streets of Moshi with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro in the back several times. It appeared that we could get along very fine and had a lot of good conversations about all sorts of things and also sometimes about the work itself ;) Discovered the bars and restaurants of Moshi and just had a good time together. He left a week before me and then it was up to me myself and I again.

After 3 weeks I decided to move on again. On my last day the new e-waste employee was supposed to start but now I transferred my knowledge, experiences, documents and contacts with Erwin and the rest of the organization by email. Now Viafrica has to make sure that the e-waste process will take off. I will be available in the background but due to traveling cannot commit myself to it.

Before I left I was lucky to go to the Serengeti Fiesta 2012 concert in Ushirika Stadium in Moshi. A big event with 10.000 people and music and artists the whole evening. The pictures speak for themselves I guess. Cool to witness!

Moshi will always be in my heart!

Practical stuff
- A decent and a central location to stay for 12.000 – 15.000 Tsh is the Coffee Tree Hotel in the KNCU building close to the clock tower roundabout.
