Sesriem Rest Camp Namib-Naukluft Park
Read my review - 5/5 stars

Flag of Namibia  , Namib-Naukluft Park,
Thursday, June 7, 2012

This is the most touristic place in Namibia and many people recognize the red sand dunes of this place and identify this with Namibia. In the afternoon we checked out the (small) Sesriem canyon and the Elim dune. A first peak of what was waiting for us the next day. Before that we cooked another beautiful meal (pasta with tuna, onion and tomatosauce) at the Sesriem campsite and enjoyed probably our last Windhoek beer in the next week! Ofcourse I congratulated my brother with his 27th birthday and he told me he was happy with my gift, cool!

The next day started early, 5 am, because we were privileged to enter the park at 5.45 instead of 6.45 for the visitors who stay outside the boundaries of the Sossusvlei. Along with a handful of cars we started the 65 km ride to the Sossuvlei. On the way we stopped at Dune 45 which is a big sand dune on which you can climb and we were just in time to see the sunset. One of the magnificent moments in life to see the sun touch the several dunes and articulate their features even more by putting the sun on one sight and the shadow on the other.

The next spot was the Sossuvlei and Deathvlei which are a bit further. All normal 2 wheel drive vehicles have to stop at an end point and from there you can take a bus (100 N$ return) to go to the Vlei's and back. We walked the 5 km and it was nice to walk through this unique landscape. We climbed the Sossusvlei and went to the Death vlei and made some cool pics.

After visiting most sights we went back for a shower and some soup and packed our stuff to continue the trip.

Practical stuff

-          When going to or coming from Sossusvlei and going to the south TAKE THE C27 route. This is the most beautiful scenic road you have ever seen and definitely don’t wanna miss!!!?!?!

-          Always stay at the Sesriem campsite inside the park to be able to see the sunrise from Dune 45.
