After an emotional day before leaving today it is really happening, I will start the big trip. As a real backpacker it started with a bus drive from Berlicum to Den Bosch with my father. There we met my sister and Wouter and Roel who did also come along to the airport. I didn't knew that Roel was coming so that was a welcome surprise. It seemed not the only surprise of this day...

At Utrecht another surprise named Sanne hopped on and eventually at Schiphol airport Carola joined the 'say goodbye to Jorg team'. Just checking in my baggage and then we could have a drink together. That was not as easy as it sounded. Since I did not know when I would come back and from where I only booked and faxing Single ticket to Nairobi. I heard that there could be a problem with that since you have no proof that you will actually return to The Netherlands. At the checkin the lady told me that I MUST have a return ticket otherwise she couldn't let me on the plane, F*CK!!

Alright, improvise... I tried to call Kilroy Travel where I booked my other ticket but they didn't answer so then I went to the Egypt Air manager and asked him what the possibilities were. After some discussion, calling, and faxing it was arranged: a return ticket from Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) on 21 August 2011 which can be changed. Pfoe... luckily I can get on board. My image as a 'money aware person' really turned into a 'cheap bastard' by now!

So after a quick but emotional goodbye with the 'say goodbye to Jorg team' and some hugs I went to the customs and to the gate. At the gate they checked my hand luggage and surprisingly they asked me to empty my bag and they scanned it again. Of course everything was alright but I can think of a smoother goodbye.
