Luckily, we woke up early and were able to attend both the info session and tour at Dartmouth (although Dad did miss about fifteen minutes while he found parking for the RV). The energy at Dartmouth was great, and it barely even rained on us (with, again, the exception of Dad). After the tour, we moseyed around the college town and had some good food at Molly's, the restaurant our guide recommended to us whose walls were covered with Dartmouth paraphernalia.
We did a bit more bookwork back in the RV-we just can't seem to escape that stuff-and began the long drive to Ithaca, NY.
Shelby's College Rating:
DARTMOUTH
Campus: Beautiful campus in the middle of a small college town-though it was still almost 4 times the size of Williamstown, our previous stop. Great buildings and lots of green space. The school owns its own ski-way. Score: 5 out of 5.
Academics: Great and flexible program, lots of outdoor courses and activities available, lots of resources just like all the Ivy's, rare books and documents library. Very interesting "D" Plan, where the school year is divided into quarters to match the seasons. So instead of two semesters, you attend four 10-week quarters comprised of three classes each with a two-week break between sessions. Also, the only school where AP classes count towards college credits. Score: 5 out of 5.
Financial: Expensive, but lots of aid and work-study available, along with paid research opportunities. Score: 4.5 out of 5.
Other: Limited and non-exclusive Greek life, grows its own organic farm, healthy food available, tight-knit and friendly community, great atmosphere. Score: 5 out of 5.
Average Score: 4.875 / 5
