We had a lot more trouble with moving the RV around today's school: Cornell University. Sprawled on top of a giant hill overlooking a lake and the town of Ithaca, it had few parking spaces. I had to jump ship at the Information Office in time to catch the campus tour while my parents went on to find a place to drop anchor and get some work done. The tour was enough for me, so after that I found Mom and Dad again and gave them my own version of the tour, and then we hit the road-beginning the 13 ½ hour drive back to Columbia, SC.
Shelby's College Rating:
CORNELL
Campus: Huge campus, with lots of modern buildings overwhelming the beautiful and unique architecture of the older ones (of course, we only got pictures of the old ones). My father loved the football stadium. The whole campus was very busy, with lots of cars and people everywhere. Too big for me, but the dorms and living arrangements are interesting-there are many options to choose from, such as living in a themed house with international students and bunking in a double suite in one of the older buildings. Score: 3 out of 5.
Academics: Apparently great academics, with lots of big-name professors, including the two men who head the US Mars Rover project and the man who invented the power-nap theory (and who tests on students). But ultimately, not much that I'm too interested in, though I'd thought otherwise before the visit. Score: 3 out of 5.
Financial: Just like the other Ivy's, expensive but lots of scholarships and grants available. Score: 4 out of 5.
Other: There just didn't seem to be much character here, and there was a big Greek life-something I'm not fond of. Not a very close and inviting community. Score: 2 out of 5.
Average Score: 3 / 5
